GAME 6: TIGERS @ VANCOUVER GIANTS

Oct 04, 2012 - 04:29 MDT

VS VANCOUVER: This is the first of three meetings this season between the Tigers and Giants. Last season, Medicine Hat posted a 2-0-0-0 record versus the Giants (0-0-0-0 at home and 2-0-0-0 in Vancouver) with the Tigers outscoring them 11-8. Leading the way for Tigers were forwards Emerson Etem (3G, 0A), Boston Leier (2 G,1A) and Hunter Shinkaruk (0G, 3A) with three points each. Tyler Bunz (1-0-0-0) and Kenny Cameron (1-0-0-0) split the two games in net. Bunz allowed 4 goals (4.00 GAA) on 39 shots (.897 Save %), while Cameron allowed 4 goals (3.69 GAA) on 31 shots (.871 Save %). On the power play the Tigers went 3 for 13 (23.1%), while killing off 13 of 15 Giants’ opportunities (86.7%).

MILESTONES: Although the Tigers roster is relatively young, a number of players could hit some significant milestones this season. Hunter Shinkaruk has already impressed in his first two seasons and with another big year he could reach the 200 point, 100 assist and 100 goal plateaus. Curtis Valk is also looking forward to building on his success from last season and should pass the 100 point, 50 assist and 50 goal marks. Boston Leier is only two away from 50 career points and Dylan Bredo is only seven assists away from 50 in a Tigers uniform. A few players are also approaching some big numbers in their penalty minute totals. If Kale Kessy continues his streak of 100+ PIM seasons he’ll pass 500 for his career. Newcomers Jacob Doty and Derek Ryckman are both sitting just under 300 PIMs for their career and will surely pass that mark and potentially reach 400 by season’s end.
