Miles Koules found it has been easy to make friends in Medicine Hat, and he has only been in town for less than a week.

Koules is an 18-year-old forward who is about to embark on his rookie campaign with the Medicine Hat Tigers. The Tigers acquired Koules' WHL rights at the WHL trade deadline in January from the Everett Silvertips in exchange for 1993-born forward Reid Petryk.

In late April, Koules, who had played for the U.S. national development team, decided to join the Tigers. The Los Angeles, Calif., product had originally committed to the University of North Dakota, before the Tigers came calling.

So far, his short stay in Medicine Hat has been a good one.

"Getting to know the guys has been awesome," said Koules. "I am really starting to like the lifestyle that we live out here.

"Having the vet skates have been fun. The retreat was good in just getting to know everyone and bonding with all the young guys.

"It has been fun all ready. I am really excited to get the season going."
